I'm Strung Out
« on: February 06, 2002, 05:00 AM »
I've been burning the candle at both ends for too long and today I'm finding myself extremely non-effective.  I have to play tonight and well, in the state I'm in now-I'm not looking forward to it.  Hey, at least I'm relaxed!  I can hardly speak on the phone without sounding like a talking corpse.  What do I do besides getting more sleep (I am getting at least 7 hours a night)...it is just my body and brain feel like ca ca.

Thanks,
Felix

I'm right there with you!

The other day, I stayed up till 2am ... working on the Cafe, getting the Welcome video happening ... and my 20 month old son wakes up and thinks it's 7am. So I stay up with him till he gets sleepy ... which is 6am!!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!
You CAN catch up on sleep ... Sleep Specialists have proven this. 7 hours of sleep is okay ... but I've heard that we really need more than that. I do realize that you said at least 7 hours, so I'm taking that to mean that you typically get more.

I'm a walking barometer ... the weather changes effect me something fierce. I know that a cold/warm front is about to move into the area ... long before the Weather Stations tell us!

All I know to do is relax, like what you are already doing, drink lots of water to flush out your system, eat well, stretch out and try to do some cardio exercise.

All right...I'll have to borrow some of your son's diapers though, cause I'm too tired to go to the john and relieve myself from all that water I'll be drinking.

The clean ones, not the poopy ones that you have to deal with.  I'll fed ex them back when I'm done.

Too funny- well, back to the salt mines.

How much exercise you getting Felix? Often when people feel strung out, it's because of a lack of exercise. The interesting thing is that there's 7 hours of sleep, and there's 7 hours of GOOD sleep. When you exercise regularly, you sleep more deeply. I'm sorta talking out of my ass though, because I don't get nearly enough of either.

But when I'm treating myself right, my health mantra is:  sleep-exercise-water. sleep-exercise-water. sleep-exercise-water. Those are the three best things you can do for your body and mind.

now go take a nap. :)

LOL ... okay ... I'll go in and modify more of your words in the censor file. This is just a standard program so I have to take out words that you want to use I guess. Just let's you know that someone found that offensive enough that they didn't want you to use them I guess ... but it wasn't me! LOL

I feel better.   Drank some water...[shadow=yellow,left,300]peed my pants.[/shadow]

I've been playing alotta drums... and I moved 1800 lbs of rubber yesterday 60lbs at a time...does that count as exercise?  Tonight I have to lug my drums around...does that count...seems like exercise.  I huff and puff enough.
Didn't get a nap yet, but strangely I have a second wind going on.

Ok, I'll try exercising...I used to do it all the time and I did feel good about myself even though I smelled like a ben gay factory.

So how did it go last night?

Did you recover your energy yesterday before your gig?

I drink a litre of cold fresh orange juice and smear Olbas Oil (Japanese Oil) just inside each nostril before playing - better than any drug you can mention, legal or otherwise!

My sister had an aromatherapy gig for quite some time and used to mix all those goofy oils.  She used to recommend them to me and I always got light headed or got a headache afterwords.

Litre of orange juice?  Yuk.  I'd feel way too bloated.  After eating a light meal I prefer chammomoile tea.

Thanks for sharing though.

Felix, have you ever heard of light and sound therapy.  I have a device called 'mind gear'.  You put on these strobe light glasses and wear a headset.  If you have epilepsy in your family you shouldn't try these units.  You know the flashing light thing, like nintendo, can cause epileptic seizures.  This machine basically controls flashing lights and rythmic patterns to stimulate your brain into different configurations for learning, relaxation, sleep, REM sleep etc..  It actually works great, I know it may sound f**ked up but it does what it says.  The only problem I had with it is if I set it to a deep relaxed state before bed it would screw up my sleep for the first couple of hours.   But in the morning or the middle of the day works great.  I have to start using it again because they say I may have sleep apnea ( not sure how to spell it ).  I know I drink way too much booze before bed and that's not got for SA. :'(

Interesting...they had something like that for sale at Lolapalooza several years ago and my friend bought one.  I was afraid to even wear the thing.

Drinking before bed time is something I have pretty much quit.

You should try one and see what you think.  They look like something off star trek while you're wearing them with all the strobes going but they're good.  Well, just a thought for you. 8) That smiley kinda looks like when you where those strobe glasses.

About the drinking before bed.  It looks like I'm going to have to give that up as well.  Well, when I'm watching the hockey game, that might be tough. ;D

Yeah, the next thing you know you will be drinking as soon as you wake up.

When you get up and reach for a beer instead of juice, oh man.

Don't f**k around with that s**t. The thing with weird therapies like that is that you come to rely on them, then all of a sudden you can't fall asleep without an aperatus attached to your forehead. Trust me, I lived in Santa Cruz for three years, surrounded by neo hippies. They're cool and all, but they want you to get hooked on their witchcraft. Don't go into the light!!!

You don't drink before bed Felix?  I only drink before bedtime ... I've found that drinking after I go to bed leads to spilling the drink.  :)

Ever since I learned Vipassana meditation I find it a great help. Basically it is just focusing and bringing your awareness down through your body from head to toe. Sleeping is not the same as relaxiing. The quality of sleep is better if the body is relaxed rather than just falling asleep with a tense body. I use this body awarenes anytime, lying down before falling asleep, sitting in a meditation, or just a quickie anywhere, anytime.

Music is also used for health and relaxing. Of course, my favorite is the traditional West African healing music I produce by artist Yaya Diallo of Mali, West Africa, author of "The Healing Drum: African Wisdom Teachings."

Wow man, I like that voodoo.  I almost went into a meditated trance just reading your post.

why don't you throw up a link to a clip of some of those west african healing drum grooves so we can all check them out.

I just saw this thread.

My only advice is cut out all refined sugar from your diet or at least as much as possible.

If you need something sweet, get something with Honey on it...or go to a healthy food grocery store and get some desserts sweetened with unrefined cane juice. The only difference you'll notice is you won't crash an hour after eating.

I second the exercise advice...anything that really makes you break a sweat.

Water and more water, especially before and after you have beers.

I could add more diet stuff but I won't bore you...the main poison most people put in their bodies on a regular basis is Refined Sugar, not only does it make you crash but your immune system slows to a halt after eating it too.

hehe...but what do I know? "@$%# Jim, I'm a Musician not a Doctor!"

OH I feel like awful tonight.  Drove about 12 hours the past 2 days...might not be alot for you truckers out there but I hate it.

I do okay with the sugar thing...but I can't give it up totally.  Life is too short....at least for me.

I'm glad you have been hanging out around here lately Stevie.
