Identify Premier Drum set
« on: January 16, 2017, 03:54 PM »
 :) Hi there¡¡¡...

Hi¡¡¡¡…

My name is Hamid, I’m from México city, and I’m actually studying drums… so I do not know anything about these world.. the reason why a write this letter is for requesting for your help…

One of my friends found on his cellar a drum set that was used by his brother 15 years ago and was abandoned there for 15 years… it has a lot of dust and rust… it’s a 7 piece drums set… bombo, 5 toms, and snare drum (Tama rockstar)… the drum belong to the Premier trademark, in rosewood color... it hasn't nowhere the model...

My request is for help me to identify de model and period to wich it belong…

I’m not able to tell you the dimensions of the drums, because I don’t know how to measure it, the snare drum it’s not from the set, it’s a Tama Rockstar model… i don't know, if to measure I have to disassemble... and mesure the shell from de edge to edge or whit the hoops...
Also don't know the kind of metal are the hardware... and the wood... if it's a good kit or a mid range kit...

I was looking on the web for information wich help me to identify the model but I can’t find anything… or maybe I’m not able to idenfify… even I check out on the past catalogues of premier that I found on the web but, there is no drum set similar on pictures or specifications…

The toms had a rim system wich indicates that was  made in Canada 1982 export 1985…

I will appreciate so much if anyone can help me with information about this drum set… plis...

Looks like this kit was made during the time that Yamaha owned Premier; 1987 to 1992. Notice the lugs on the drums. These are just like Yamaha lugs; very different from the lugs used prior to the Premier Percussion purchase. The badge says "England" not "Made in England" which is peculiar. The kit is probably a Premier XPK; birch/eucalyptus/birch wood shells.

To measure the drum sizes...

Width = the diameter across the drumhead, excluding the metal drum rim, so measure inside the rim.
Depth = the length from top to bottom (wood only) along the side of the drum, excluding the metal drum rim.

You don't have to take the drum apart to measure it. The drum width and depth should be whole numbers.
