Title: Cure for Tinnitus?
Post by: Bart Elliott on July 29, 2009, 03:27 PM
I recently saw and ad on TV about taking a medication that would cure tinnitus. Although I haven't been able to track down the exact product that was advertised (I suffer from memory loss, not hearing loss ;) ), I did find this article an interesting read.

I definitely agree there are ways to manage tinnitus, with varying degrees of success dependent on the sufferer, but a complete cure?? - I'd be surprised, but pleased if it happened.

Thanks for the info, Bart.  I've been suffering with tinnitus for quite a few years now.  It generally doesn't bother me but there are instances (generally a quiet environment) where it is bad enough to be distracting.

I may check out the Wobenzyme N formulation to see if it actually provides any relief.

Please do let us (me) know. If people start reporting some positive results, this is something I would definitely want to get the word out about.

If you have bad tinnitus, any relief is going to be a benefit I'm sure.

As with any get cured/rich quick pitch, be careful... http://www.medscape.com/medline/abstract/8525134

That's interesting???? I simply googled Wobenzyme and found the article, no registration required.  It was simply an case of someone being admitted to the hospital after taking the stuff. Might be one in a million, who knows.

my former bassist had it pretty bad. i gave him this holistic product whose name i can't recall, but will try to find. the same company also offers a product for the eye. both are in liquid form, if i recall correctly and are sold at walgreen's. they are essentially nutritional, vitamin-based therapies that work on inflammation.

he says he had good results with it after 2 weeks, but he didn't want to use the full dosage for whatever reason. it didn't cure him, but it alleviated a lot of the buzz and ring.

with tinnitus, there seems to be a correlation with stress and good sleep, but so many variables come into play.

all the more reason to wear earplugs.

Lying in bed after a gig is worst time for me, restuarants and any room full of people yaking are hopeless. Seratone 5 HTP helps me sleep it off.

I saw an ad in PARADE this past Sunday for "Quietus".  It was apparently developed by a drummer named Bernard (Perdie?  LOL!).  Anyway, the website is:

I have no idea about this product, just passing along the info.

*** Wow! The website is using a completely different marketing method than the ad I saw.  whatever.

Sceptical about that one, it claims pain cure, wasn't aware pain was a symptom, pain it is likely something else wrong. :-\

Here is a good description of NIHL.

A life of working in noisy industrial environments (day jobs), shooting shot guns, riding motorcycles, and drumming with little of no ear protection, have all attributed to my NIHL.
There is more education about these days and good to see many younger drummers wearing the protection that will help prevent it in the first place.

Here's something more mainstream:

Unfortunately my tinnitus has worsened over recent weeks.
