Has anyone out there had one of these fail, and had it apart and were able to repair it ?I have one that will no longer trigger when struck ?

Stewart Manley

Don't know what the problem is but the unit is very easy to disassemble. Flip it over and remove the circle of screws around the edge of the plastic body, and the two part will come apart. Be careful as there's a ribbon connector between the two parts - you can unplug it quite easily and get full access to all of the electronics.

I didn't open mine up to repair, but to insert some pieces of closed-cell foam to deaden the "clonk" sound when it's played.

What is closed cell foam the stuff that is used in electronic circuit board packing boxes?

Stewart Manley

No, that's either open-cell or regular foam. Closed-cell foam is the dense stuff used to make the insulating camping mats you put under a sleeping bag. I cut two donut shapes to fit inside the ring-shaped space inside the hihat to fill up that big resonating space.
