I recently got a Crush acrylic kit. I'm normally pretty good at tuning snares, but this acrylic one, I just can't seem to get it right.

It's a 14x6 (not 6.5) with 10 lugs. I thought the rims might have been a little warped so I picked up some Pearl die cast hoops, still not happy with it.

It seems just overly crispy sounding to me, and in trying to get a deep fat sound. I tune it high it sounds high and thin. Tune it low and sounds low and thin.

Is it the acrylic that's weird or the 6" depth or what? Any ideas?
Remo Ambassador coated on top and resonant snare on bottom.

With a drum like this there's not a lot of inherent tone in the shell so your going to want something a little bit thicker than the ambassador. On the Evans side I'd go with hydraulics for a thick fat sound. If your going Remo, anything that has any kind of double ply with or without and oil filler between the plys should serve you well. I would recommend a powerstroke 77 or pinstripe.
