Simon Wright

Simon Wright, born June 19, 1963 in Oldham, Lancashire, England, is a British drummer best known for his time with rock n' roll bands AC/DC (1983–1989) and Dio (1989-1991, 1999-2010). He has worked with the likes of UFO, Michael Schenker Group, John Norum, Rhino Bucket, A II Z, Mogg/Way, Geoff Tate and others.

Wright, who began playing drums at the age of 13, cites legendary drummers Cozy Powell, Tommy Aldridge and John Bonham as his greatest influences.

Simon Wright's first professional gig was touring with the support act for Girl School at the age of 16 with the band A II Z on the British leg of the “Screaming Blue Murder” tour. About a year later, Simon was chosen to replace Phil Rudd and joined AC/DC. He performed and recorded with AC/DC for about seven years and is featured on the albums Fly On The Wall, Who Made Who and Blow Up Your Video.

After leaving AC/DC in 1989, Wright met Ronnie James Dio. He was hired as the backbone for DIO entering the 90?s, their first effort together would produce the critically acclaimed album, Lock Up The Wolves. Wright went on to perform on six Dio albums and was a member of Dio until the untimely passing of Ronnie James Dio in 2010.
