Chris Pennie at MD Fest

While returning to Montclair State University's Memorial Auditorium, the site of sixteen Modern Drummer Festivals going back to the late 1980s, may have brought back fond memories for some of the ticket holders, artists, and media and drum industry representatives in attendance, the overwhelming success of the twentieth edition of the Festival undoubtedly created a host of positive new memories for all those present for the 2010 event.

The recent Festival followed the format of previous shows, with performances by world-renowned drummers Stanton Moore, Benny Greb, Adam Deitch, Shawn Pelton, Shannon Forrest, and Chris Pennie, but expanded to offer educational master classes by Chris Coleman and Daniel Glass as well as a hands-on group drumming workshop in the outdoor area adjacent to the theater that was open to all attendees throughout the day. This year's show also featured goodie bags containing souvenir cymbals, drumheads, T-shirts, and media CDs for each ticket holder, along with over $25,000 worth of drum gear giveaways highlighted by a drawing for the drumset, cymbals, heads, and sticks Festival artist Chris Pennie played on stage.

Furthermore, the 2010 event set a new standard for support and participation from the industry's top drum and percussion companies, including Alesis, Alfred Music, Aquarian, Audix, Bosphorus, Drum Workshop, Drummers Collective, Evans, Gretsch, Hudson Music, LP, Mapex, Meinl, Paiste, Pro-Mark, PureSound, Regal Tip, Remo, Revolution, Rhythm Tech, Sabian, Shure, Sonor, Tama, Tycoon Percussion, Universal Percussion, Vater, Vic Firth, Yamaha, and Zildjian.

The management and staff of Modern Drummer Publications wish to thank the performers, sponsors, audience, crew, and everyone else who was involved in making the Modern Drummer Festival 2010 such an inspiring and rewarding experience. DVD and instant download versions of Modern Drummer Festival 2010 video will be available from Hudson Music and Modern Drummer in late October.
