Includes Multichannel Mix in SACD Surround Sound & Original 2-Channel Stereo Mixes in SACD Stereo/CD Stereo from Audio Fidelity

Birds of Fire is the Mahavishnu Orchestra's second album — released in the first half of 1973, it is the last studio effort released by the original line-up before the group dissolved. The album became a major crossover hit, rising to Number 15 on the pop album charts, and it remains a touchstone release in the first Mahavishnu Orchestra's slim discography.

Although it has much of the screaming rock energy of the band's debut, Inner Mounting Flame, Birds of Fire is audibly more varied in texture, even more tightly organized, and more musical in content. The 10-track set is a remarkable example of precisely choreographed, high-speed solo trading - with John McLaughlin, Jerry Goodman, and Jan Hammer all of one mind, supported by Billy Cobham's machine-gun drumming and Rick Laird's dancing bass.

Birds of Fire consists solely of compositions by John McLaughlin. This includes the mesmerizing title track "Birds Of Fire" and "Miles Beyond" which McLaughlin dedicated to his friend and former bandleader Miles Davis. The accompanying booklet comes complete with a poem entitled "Revelation" by Sri Chinmoy.
