The Brush Secret

Alfred Music Publishing, the official print music publisher of thousands of popular artists, songwriters, and composers, releases The Brush Secret, an instructional DVD on how to develop and apply one’s own voice to brush playing, by internationally renowned drummer, clinician, and author, Florian Alexandru-Zorn.

The Brush Secret is a comprehensive approach to brush technique that provides the underlying secrets of playing the drumset with brushes while encouraging the development of a personalized voice. Suitable for both beginners and advanced players, the concepts included are more than just mindless and endless patterns–they cover a wide variety of playing style and genre, from jazz and Latin, to funk and reggae. Topics include: sweeping concepts; 17 different genres; interviews and short lessons with Jost Nickel, Mike Johnston, Benny Greb, and Stanton Moore; percussion adaptations; how to record brushes; and much more.

Florian Alexandru-Zorn was taught by renowned German drummer Michael Küttner at the Music High School in Mannheim. Florian soon after taught at workshops all over Europe and played with artists such as Jost Nickel and Steve Smith. Known for his versatility, Florian’s playing style covers everything from Jazz and World Music, to Hip Hop and Drum ‘n’ Bass. In 2009, he toured with the European Masterclass Big Band (Peter Herbolzheimer). Florian currently plays with Poland’s star guitarist Romuald Erenc, a jazz group with Prof. Thomas Stabenow, and with his own Trio.

The Brush Secret DVD is now available for $39.99 at music retail stores and online today through the Drummer Cafe.
