Yamaha Drums Supplies 13 Drum Sets, Technical Support to the World’s Longest-Running Jazz Festival

Yamaha Drums, long an integral part of the Monterey Jazz Festival, supplied a baker’s dozen drum sets to each of the premier jazz festival’s stages, ensuring that the world class drummers who appeared need only be concerned with their performance, not the gear.

Held September 16-18, 2011, at the 20-acre Monterey Fairgrounds site, the festival showcased renowned performers, including several Yamaha Artists.

“Yamaha Drums and Monterey Jazz has been an ideal match now spanning more than three decades because of our shared commitment to quality,” said Mark A. Stotzer, the festival’s production crew chief. “We choose Yamaha because of the quality and durability of the product, the universal parts in their hardware, and the fact that Yamaha is the kit most preferred by the vast majority of artists.”

Yamaha provided a selection of drum sets, including Stage Custom Birch, Tour Custom, Oak Custom, Club Custom, Absolute Birch, and Absolute Maple.

Yamaha drum set artists performing included Eric Harland (James Farm), Nikki Glaspie (Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk) and Bill Gibson (Huey Lewis and the News).

“Artists and fans come to the Monterey Jazz Festival expecting the very best of all worlds and that starts with the backline, which includes Yamaha drums,” said Jeff Sloan, festival drum tech and backline manager. “Work on this back line starts a year in advance with amazing technical support from Yamaha. Then, their on-site technicians make sure that all of the details are covered from field repairs to expert tuning. I am proud to work alongside this company.”
