Blood, Sweat & Tears - Greatest Hits

Back in the late 90's I was working quite regularly with Bill Tillman, former member (1974-1977) of the legendary band,  Blood, Sweat & Tears, in which Bill played alto sax, flute, clarinet, and handled a lot of backing vocals. Over the decades, Bill Tillman has had several band configurations that he's worked with, but the one group I was most involved with was Bill Tillman and the Funk City Horns. Most of the repertoire consisted of BW&T tunes (no surprise there), plus hits by such groups as Chicago, Tower of Power, and other brass oriented TOP 40 dance tunes spanning from the 60's through the 80's.

Here I'm supplying some of my BS&T drum charts — Spinning Wheel, God Bless the Child, and You've Made Me So Very Happy — which I created for my gigs with Bill Tillman. Please keep in mind that these are not full transcriptions of the original recordings, but rather a road-map to help the drummer make it through the song. I've notated the basic grooves and included important rhythmic figures that need to be played or set-up for the brass section.
