Title: Racks
Post by: Misenko on January 22, 2002, 08:55 AM
Hey guys! I'm thinking about buying a rack system for my Premier kit, and I'm wondering what you all think of Racks Vs Stands, and if you are for Racks, what should I get if I do decide to get one, I have a limited budget, but I don't need anything too big, I have a 7pc kit, with 3 cymbols at the moment, but that is gonna be about 5 when I am finished. So, feedback would be helpfull here, lol i know squat about all these wooden thingies! what do they call them? Druks or something? Drums? hmm, who knows!  ;)

Thanks!

Misenko

I have a Gibraltar rack which I love.

The type of gig and/or venue I'm playing in helps to determine whether I use the rack or stands. Since I don't do that much club work anymore (just sessions and concerts), I typically use the rack.

The plus about racks is that you can mount everything the same way, the same place EVERY time. When I'm in a recording session, I want to have my drums exactly where I want them; the way I have them when I play live and/or practice. Rather than taking hours to move this and that a fraction of an inch, I can quickly set-up and be ready to go ... being very please with the ergonomic feel of my kit.

Some may argue that the rack takes up more floor space. I have found that I have more actual floor space now that I don't have several dozen stands intertwined with each other. If you must work within a tight space, such as a small club, then a rack would not be good for you. If you have a big set-up, with lots of cymbals and drums, a rack can be a gift from above.

If you are going to get a rack, get the best that you can afford. Purchasing cheap clamps, etc., will only cause problems for you further on down the line (ie. radial slippage).

I don't officially endorse Gibraltar, but I have been very pleased with my Road Series rack.

cool, thanks for that! my problem at the moment is that I have more toms than stands, and I am starting to really appreciate toms so i want more on my set!  instead of buying stands for the toms I can't mount I was thinking a rack would suit me, cause it would be able to mount everything, and then some, setting me up for the future.
Oh, and my drum kit was second hand, so don't think I'm stupud buying loads of toms without stands! lol, it came like that! ;)
