Title: RIP: Ronald Shannon Jackson & John Bergamo
Post by: Michael Bettine on October 20, 2013, 06:59 PM
The drumming community has lost 2 giants this weekend.

Jazz drummer Ronald Shannon Jackson died Saturday at the age of 73. Shannon had played with Albert Ayler, Ornette Colman, Cecil Taylor, Last Exit, Power Tools, and his own Decoding Society. He was uncompromising and a true original.

John Bergamo, also 73, was a master frame drummer and taught at CalArts from 1970-2005. He worked with a wide variety of artists, including Frank Zappa, Lou Harrison, Micky Hart, John McLaughlin, and many others. He was also a busy studio drummer playing on a wide variety of film soundtracks and founded both The Repercussion Unit and The Hands On'Semble. He was inducted into the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame in 2012.
