What are the differences between a quality concert snare, marching snare, and your good quality drumkit snare?

Despite the obvious large (and loud) nature of a marching drum, there often isn't a difference between that of a snare drum used in concert applications and as part of a drumset.  Popular examples include the Ludwig Supraphonic, Super-Sensitive, and even the Acrolite in some cases (I've seen this cited somewhere).  I'm sure a Slingerland Radio King has gotten use in a concert application somewhere.

It really is all about the sound that is required.  Many modern concert snare drums, reflecting the need for as pure a sound as possible, will go to extra lengths and provide many adjustments with the snares, a throwoff mechanism that might not choke the snares as much (the Super-Sensitive is one example), a shell assembled with the utmost care (as many snare drums more thought of as for popular work are even constructed), and many other factors.
