I like 22's and 24's for kicks
 5.5's to 6.5's for snares
power toms or fast sizes for toms...
12's 13's 15's and 16's if I had my druthers
I let the electrics handle the bongo department if cheese dictates

I'm kinda happy with my current kit so I'll just list it :)

20x14 bass
14x5.5 snare
10x8, 12x8, 14x10, 16x14 toms

I usually use the 10,12 and 14 toms, but I'm thinking about adding the 16, maybe on my left.

I now have the standard set combo

   14 x 22  bass

   10 x   12       rack
   11  x   13      toms
    16  x   16     floor

     5  x  14   brass snare

If and when I ever get a new kit I'd go for

    18 x 22   bass

     8 x 8
    8 x 10    rack toms
    10 x 12
     12 x 14

      14 x 16       floor toms
       16 x 18

I prefer a 18" kick,5 1/2 X 14 Sn. Toms are 12-13-14
The definition is awesome on a 18 " kick.....if properly tuned.

A basic jazz kit..

I have other kits with various sizes for certain type projects.I usually use the above mentioned kit on 90 % of my projects.

I recently swiched to smaller toms.

Set one:
16x22 bass drum
10x12 rack tom
12x14 hanging floor tom
6.5x14 snare

Set two:
16x20 bass drum
10x12 rack tom
14x14 floor tom
5x14 snare

I also have 10" toms for both sets in case I want to play a five piece set.  Peace.

I currently play the ol standard "rock" set up with 22x16 bass, 12,13 power toms 16x16 floor and a 5.5x14 snare.

What I would like someday- undecided on the 22 or 20x18 bass (haven't played enough of the 20's)
Ilike the power toms but would prefer either 8,10,12,14, with 16 floor or 12,13,14,15 with 16 floor.  I believe the first set up with the 8-16 would be more versatile but I just love those deep tones.  Definatly rack mounted.   As for the snare I'd like to keep a 5.5 x14 but then play either a 6.5 or 7 x14 (if going with the deep toms) or a good piccolo (uncertain of the sizes but would tune it for a nice high twangy sound- leave the "crack" for the larger snare).
