Anyone Play Video Games Here?
« on: November 20, 2006, 06:03 PM »
Just wondering if anyone is planning on or has bought any of the new systems recently releases (ps3, wii, xbox360) Tell me what you think about the three, which one will win whatever you want. Thanks a lot!

No interest in the hyped systems here.  Although I did get a kick out of all the dudes sleeping outside the local Circuit City for a week waiting for the newest whatever-it-was to go on sale.

Fact is, I just don't have the time for video games - cool as some of them are - nor do I want my son parked in front of a TV for hours when he could be outside playng and getting exercise (or learning to play drums from his dad!).

A few years ago I got a kick out of playing PC games like Simm City and Zoo Tycoon.  And I'm not a total ogre...  my son's favorite PC game until recently was Bugdom, and anything SpongeBob related.  :)

Funny that you mention that. Recently the new playstation 3 system has been released and I was one of those campers you speek of  lol! I waited 32 hours in front of Target and I plan on selling it to make quite a hefty profit so I can you know...... buy more drum gear mabey a cymbal of two. The ps3's are $600 and have an insane shortage which, on ebay, causes prices for one unit to  go from $1000-$2000 a pop! Quite a nice profit, however prices are excpected to skyrocket once it is closer to Christmas of course, which is when I plan on listing it on ebay.

Maybe I'm a weirdo, but I play ONE game (and only the one) on my PC almost every night, and this has been going on for about two years. It's called Age Of Empires II - an older game, but I never get tired of it. And I just have no interest in any of the newer stuff, unless it's one day buying the newer version of AofE.

I should probably note that I'm an old man.

. . .The ps3's are $600 and have an insane shortage . . .

That "shortage" creates a fear of not getting one for some people, and that creates demand.  The demand helps keep the price up.  The less there is of something the more special it becomes and the more people are willing to pay for it.

It's like when they tell you at the grocery store that there's a limit of 2 on some "special" item; or when a drum company tells you: "hurry! only x number of these special drumsets will be made!".  It helps create that sense of "must be special, gotta have it".

Nevertheless, I'm glad you got yours.  Good luck on the reselling.  PayPal or USPO check only!  :)

Yeah, they do have a third one out and it's pretty incredible. The DEMO won't even run on my 2001 Dell computer, so I can't buy the game until I get a new computer. But man, I cannot stop playing that older game. Something about it grabs my imagination.

I've recently dug out my old skool NES and spent the past few weekends immersed in Marioworld and Megaman.

I'm a much bigger fan of the old games, I enjoy those quirky blocky graphics and actual playability...

I fear that PS2 & Xbox games etc take up far too much of my life, I can quite easily become obsessed and wave goodbye to months!

I've been playing Day of Defeat now for about......hmmmm.....whenever the game came out.  I'm guessing that was probably in 2001.  I joined a "clan" about three years ago and we won the championships in three different leagues, two of which were the top divisions and one in the middle division.  We sent a team to the CPL championship in Texas, but got eliminated in the third round.

I don't play as much now, and even then it's probably still too much.  I have no desire to take up any other games because It'll mean something more important won't get done.  :)

I was a big gamer. A few months ago I took all the games off my PC though because I decided it was taking up too much time away from my music. I love gaming, but I love music more. I do have the Starsiege 2845 ATR installed and am testing it right now. However, I composed part of the soundtrack for that game, so I feel it's my duty to test it when I can. It's pretty fun too. Just prior to taking everything off my PC, my favorite game was BF2. I was thinking of buying BF2142, but I think that $50 should go to my next cymbal. Also, BF2142 has always seemed to me like it borrowed an idea from our SS2845, considering we are being published under the same game company. But that's just my thought...

Seems like we all were gamers at one point, but quit because of lack of time or becoming addicted. You can put me in that same category! I used to play video games all day and night and I never quit and for that my drumming technique and guitar  and schoolwork suffered. I just had to say enough is enough. However, that doesn't stop me from getting a nice profit of the latest systems coming out!

geez, 2 grand for a video game? i'll put that money toward a caribbean jaunt, thank you very much!

we have a 2-year old xbox [i guess that's ancient in video parlance] that my boyfriend is pretty attached to. i don't go near it. i used to like that wwII game, and a very difficult 'space travel' type game, but i really can't be bothered. plus staring at the tv gives me a headache.

my faves are still the arcade versions of defender, tempest, and i think it was called tetris -- the one where you make all the pieces kinda fit into one another as they come down the screen.

We will probably get a PS3...

I reread the club charter just now, and there is a codicil that will allow you to join IF you bring your PS3 with you. Um, wait, there's more...

Uh ...I'll just write the codicil out here to avoid any confusion.

"Codicil 7a.  Be it Resolved, that Women in their Many Forms shalt not take ingress of the Club unless they bringeth propitiation, as amusements, Games, Liquors, or savory Foodstuffs. Two or more of the aforementioned Conditions must be met simultaneously for a Woman to gain admittance to the Club proper, said ingress rescinded once the Commodities are expended."

In other words, bring the PS3 and a snack tray and you can hang.

The club charter does not exclude PROFESSIONAL girls, such girls as that may, through their training or inclination, offer in trade a libidinous repast for the club members.

Well that just reminds me of this list:
~~
HOW DO YOU FIND THE RIGHT PERSON TO MARRY:

You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she
should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.
-Alan, age 10

No person really decides before they grow up who they're going to marry.
God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you're stuck with.
-Kirsten, age 10

WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED?

Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then.
-Camille, age 10

No age is good to get married at. You got to be a fool to get married.
-Freddie, age 6 (Very wise for his age)

HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED?

You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the
same kids.
-Derrick, age 8

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON?

Both don't want any more kids.
-Lori, age 8

WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A DATE?

Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each
other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.
-Lynnette, age 8 (Isn't she a treasure)

On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that usually gets
them interested enough to go for a second date.
-Martin, age 10

WHAT WOULD YOU DO ON A FIRST DATE THAT WAS TURNING SOUR?

I'd run home and play dead. The next day I would call all the newspapers
and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead columns.
-Craig, age 9

WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE?

When they're rich.
-Pam, age 7

The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn't want to mess with that.
-Curt, age 7

The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them
and have kids with them. It's the right thing to do.
-Howard, age 8

IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?

I don't know which is better, but I'll tell you one thing. I'm never
going to have sex with my wife. I don't want to be all grossed out.
-Theodore, age 8

It's better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone
to clean up after them.
-Anita, age 9 (Bless you child)

HOW WOULD THE WORLD BE DIFFERENT IF PEOPLE DIDN'T GET
MARRIED?

There sure would be a lot of kids to explain, wouldn't there?
-Kelvin, age 8

"And the #1 Favourite is........"

HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A MARRIAGE WORK?

Tell your wife that she looks pretty even if she looks like a truck.
-Ricky, age 10

If I wasn't a drummer all of my time would go towards 2 things. Magic and Runescape. Before my account got locked (aka password stolen) I lived on my computer playing that game. Addicting, time consuming. It was basically a drug to me. Good thing that I found this place.

I play Xbox 360 on xbox live; playing with a bunch of friends in Call of Duty 3 is so much fun. Also, I just got a wii but haven't had a chance to play it yet. Reviews say that the new Zelda game is awesome, so I can't wait

One of my friends used to be insanely addicted to Runescape. He would spend so much time on it that it wasnt even funny!

Anybody else have xbox live here? If so, send me your gamertag in a message and I'll add you to my friends list  :)

There's a workaround - sneak through Morning Wood (you'll pass The Sleeping Dogs, let them lie) and lie down in NyQuil Hollow. It's a long wait, you can catch a good nap here. Luke Sleepwalker will finally appear, and if you can wake him up you get three blanket shields and a pair of War Slippers. I'd tell you how to do it, but ... uh oh, little drowsy  ....

I was so hooked on a PC racing game a while back (Nascar Heat) that I bought a Microsoft steering wheel and pedal board for it. I don't even watch Nascar - it was just SO MUCH FUN driving those cars around.

It still amazes me that you can have great games right on your home computer and play them whenever the hell you want. Twenty years ago I dumped countless quarters down Asteroids' coin slot - things have really changed.

By brother is more hardcore than I am, he currently owns every major system since the NES (except for the Jaguar, Neo-Geo, 32-X and PS3).  I bought him a Wii for a wedding gift (it was on his gift registry  ::) ) and that thing is incredible.  I bought him the Zelda game and it came with Wii sports, which is a whole lot better than I thought it would be.

We had a Wii bowling tournament at my parents' house for Thanksgiving.  You actually "bowl" with the controller and the way you bowl in real life is how you bowl in the game.

I've seen a couple of posts expressing concerns of children gaming instead of exercising.  One of my favorite games is Dance, Dance Revolution.  This game is highly addictive and you don't even realize you're exercising.  The day after I got this game, my body was so sore I could hardly move.  I didn't track my weight after I bought it, but my brother lost 13 pounds in the first week he had it.  Of course...we were still had no tan...but we were in better shape than we would be sitting on the couch playing Unreal:  Tournament.

I'm a major Zelda fan, so I can't wait to get Twilight Princess. Read my signature as well. That's a quote from one of the better Zelda games.

I have twilight princess for the wii, its awesome stuff. a lot of similarities to ocarina of time, but  much different at the same time.

and i noticed that quote of yours before...i really like it
