ALL-STAR DRUM NIGHT AT LIMS TO SUPPORT TEENAGE CANCER TRUST
« Reply #2 on: July 01, 2008, 06:18 PM »
Taking place during this year’s London International Music Show (LIMS) the Remo Drummers Night included a remarkable line-up of drummers who combined for one night only in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust. And when Pete Lockett and Remo needed a percussion band to perform they turned to the Institute to help them out!

Opening the show to an enthusiastic audience, Pete Lockett and the Institute drummers provided a powerful start to a great night. The Institute students fortunate enough to get this amazing opportunity were hand-picked from the Degree and Diploma programmes and demonstrated their ability and nerve in performing at the highest level. They were Dan Szymczak, Zuzana Vrablecova, Hanns Menacho, Tom Price, Stuart Lawson, Steve Muncaster, Serena Donnelly, Martin Haumann, Chris Woolams, and Micheal Brennan.

The followed Andrew Small (Kylie Minogue/Massive Attack), who quickly departed immediately after his performance to play with Massive Attack at the Royal Festival Hall later that evening, followed by Karl Brazil, (James Blunt), Geoff Dugmore (UK Session Great), Simon Hanson (Squeeze), Paul Stewart (The Feeling), Jojo Mayer (Nerve), Trevor Lawrence Jr (Snoop Dogg, Alicia Keys) and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers),
The House Band opened the second half with Paul Mason on drums followed by Mark Schulman (Cher, Pink), Andy Newmark (Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music), Ian Matthews (Kasabian), James Hester (Malakai), Cherisse Osei (Mika),  Jerry Brown (Girls Aloud), Neal Wilkinson (Van Morrison), and Steve White (Paul Weller) who was also joined on stage by Chad Smith.  The unique finale was all the drummers taking to the stage on the eight drumsets. The show was hosted by Ian Danter (Talk Sport Radio).

After his performance Mark Schulman, himself a cancer survivor, contributed with an emotional speech as he praised the efforts of the charity. With this came a live auction hosted by Chad Smith – REMO had donated a 50th Anniversary REMO snare drum signed by all participating REMO artists. After an enthusiastic response the auctioned snare drum settled at a staggering £1,500 by Jules Follett. After being moved by Mark Schulman’s speech, Jules Follett made the decision to gift the snare drum to Mark to be later auctioned by Teenage Cancer Trust alongside other drums and cymbals donated by Phil Collins (Genesis), Stewart Copeland (The Police), Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden) as well as a snare drum donated by Nigel Olsson and also signed by Elton John.  The final amount raised from the concert will be announced in January at Namm 2009.
