Hi,  I picked up a used Mountain Rhythm djembe a couple of years ago.  It's 10" made of pine.  I have found that I really like the drum but I'm thinking about getting a larger one.  I thought that a larger drum would have a better bass tone and more separation between the bass pitch and the higher pitch.  From what I have read in different post it seems most people use either a 12" or 14".  Initially I thought I would go to 12" but I wasn't sure how much difference I would get between 10" and 12" so I am thinking about going to 13" drum.  I am also planning to get mahogany instead of pine.

Unfortunately the local selection is not that great where I could play a couple of different sizes.  I was wondering if anyone had experience with different size drums and could provide some insight about the difference in sound between?  Is the larger drum going to sound the same but larger?  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I got a used 16" Remo djembelast summer.  I understand tht these are different animals fro mtraditional djembes because of the synthetic materials used.  Once I got a stand for it, I started using it in my church, which has a sanctuary that holds 299 people (that what the sign says) and has a high peak.  The sound man told me that the bass from that thing carries like crazy.  I drive a Cavalier, so it does not fit in the trunk, so I recently got a Remo Advent Djembe  http://www.guitarcenter.com/Remo-Advent-Djembe-105777205-i1506442.gc]http://www.guitarcenter.com/Remo-Advent-Djembe-105777205-i1506442.gc   I have it tuned pretty high; more like a doumbek.  I just got it last Friday, but I think it is great, so far.
