Drumming for the Song is a workshop series with a focus on drum set composition within a songwriting context. This first time Baltimore event will take place Sunday October 9, 2011 at The Wind Up Space as part of the Free Fall Baltimore grant program through the Baltimore Office of Promotion and Arts. Drumming for the Song is presented by Music 4 More, a Baltimore based non-profit that benefits music programs in communities across the country.

The clinic is encouraged for all ages and levels of drummers and is free to the public. Attendees are encouraged to register at  http://www.music4more.org/drummingforthesong]www.music4more.org/drummingforthesong  as space is limited.

Drumming for the Song's mission is to educate new drummers about the role of the drum set in the band during the songwriting process, and to generate a dialogue among more experienced drummers at the local level. The event, founded by drummers Ben Tufts (Justin Trawick Band), Mike Smirnoff (We Were Kings and Justin Jones & The Driving Rain), and Brian Shanley (Honor By August) has been held in previous years in the Washington D.C region.

Washington D.C native, http://www.allisonmiller.com]Allison Miller will be the featured clinician at the clinic. Allison's experience in the music industry is plentiful. She has lead her own band, BOOM TIC BOOM, played with legendary songwriting vocalists Ani DiFranco, and Natalie Merchant, toured with avant-garde saxophonist Marty Ehrlich and legendary organist Doctor Lonnie Smith. Allison's most recent gig was touring with singer-songwriter, Brandi Carlile. She approaches each of these musical situations with her own stylistic identity and a creative, fresh and energetic approach. Allison was chosen as a "Rising Star Drummer" in Downbeat's 53rd and 58th Annual Critics Poll.

Allison Miller began playing the drums at the age of ten, studying with Walter Salb, and was featured in Downbeat magazine's "Up and Coming" section in 1991. Five years later, after graduating from West Virginia University, she moved to New York City to study with Michael Carvin and Lenny White and pursue what has become a fruitful career as a freelance drummer, composer, producer, and teacher. Music 4 More is a 501 (c) 3 charity that works to provide financial and in-kind resources to sustain and foster under funded music programs in schools and communities across the United States. Music 4 More will use the funds [do you mean funds from the grant via Drumming for the Song? Or funds raised by M4M in general? I would specify this] to purchase instruments and supplies for Maryland music classrooms.  http://www.music4more.org]www.music4more.org

Free Fall Baltimore is made possible by presenting sponsor Susquehanna Bank and the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, Joseph and Harvey Meyerhoff Family Charitable Funds, The Abell Foundation, William G. Baker, Jr. Memorial Fund, American Trading and Production Corporation (Atapco) and Baltimore Community Foundation.
