got 100 bucks or so, Canadian...
« on: August 14, 2003, 10:02 AM »
so, i've got this newfound wealth, as it was my birthday a week ago...thank you, thank you.
Anyways, i'm looking for your input on what i should spend it on. I do not own a drumset of my own, and my parents will not allow me one, and as i won't be able to fit one in a dorm, i don't plan on saving for one for a while yet.  - -at this point i'm using the church's set, as i play for them. I don't really want to buy any accessories for the set, because they would just sit in my closet or something during college...

I am probably going to get some more sticks, at this point i'm using vic firth 5b hickory, which i love, and have a pair of 5a promark hickory, but i don't really like the feel of those. I'm gonna probably see if i can try some sticks with different heads, the ball heads, or whatever.
i was also thinking of getting some bongos or something, but anyone can play bongos, so i dunno...
any input is appreciated.

If I were in your place I would use if for drum lessons.
No one will believe it's the "Blues" if you wear a suit, 'less you happen to be an old person, and you slept in it last night!

Yeah go for lessons. Oh! you could get a practice pad kit. They're small compact and easy to put away when needed. Check'em out they're pretty cool.

already have a practice pad, a good remo one,
and i dunno, i am working through Reed's syncopation and such, and at this point, i just don't know if i really need lessons...i mean, obviously they'd help me...
but they're not as fun as say...a mini conga or a djembe or bongos or something....
but yeah...i dunno...
thanks for the advice though i'll check out possible teachers.

already got a bunch, including Reed's Syncopation i'm working through now...
i was thinking of a djembe or something,but...
my musician friends are always asking me when i can bring my drums, or they can come and jam with me, but the church drums, the ones i'm using, are in the sanctuary of the church, and i'm not really allowed to just play whatever i want, with whomever i want in the sanctuary with the drums the church paid for...
i need something i can play with them with, but also something that is affordable, within 200 bucks or so...
i just don't know...any ideas are good...
