Depends what kind of drum you have.

One of my best friends is hardcore into Ludwigs and he has a bunch of books that place his serial #'s to dates of manufacture pretty accurately.  You just have to dig a little.

Ludwigs you can probably find the date at www.vintagedrum.com .I know someone that contacted Yamaha about the date of their set.So its my assumption that if you contact most companies they would be able to tell you the year/years in which your drum was made. What kind of snare are you looking to date?

Find the manufactuers website and contact them with the serial number and tell them that you want some information about it. Usually they can get back to you about it. Give that a try.
