Philip Paul, born August 11, 1925 in Harlem, New York City, New York, is a studio drummer from Cincinnati, Ohio, best known as the first-call drummer (1952 to 1965) at King Records (Cincinnati, OH), playing over 350 sessions and creating the groove to "The Twist" (Hank Ballard and the Midnighters). Paul recorded with such legends as Tiny Bradshaw, Hank Ballard, Milt Buckner, Freddie King, Grandpa Jones, Cowboy Copas, and Bonnie Lou.
