Al Harewood

Al Harewood, born June 3, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York, was an American jazz drummer and teacher, best known for playing drums on many classic sessions for Blue Note recording artists in the 1950s and ’60s, as well as his long association with saxophonist, Stanley Turrentine (1959 - 1963).

Throughout his career, Harewood performed and/or recorded with a healthy list of jazz musicians and groups such as David Amram, the Art Farmer/Gigi Grice band, the Curtis Fuller-Benny Golson Sextet, the J.J. Johnson/Kai Winding group, Benny Green, Lou Donaldson, Bobby Hutcherson, Horace Parlan, Ike Quebec, Dizzy Reece, Dexter Gordon and Grant Green.

Al Harewood died on March 13, 2014; he was 90.
