DJ Fontana

DJ Fontana, born Dominic Joseph Fontana on March 15, 1931 in Shreveport, LA, is an American drummer, best known for his 14 years and 460 RCA cuts with Elvis Presley.

Considered by many to be the first drummer of rock and roll, Fontana spent 1955 to 1969 playing drums for Elvis. He appeared on dozens of recordings with Presley and thousands of concerts, the movie Jailhouse Rock, and the televised 1968 Comeback Special.

In 2009, Fontana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

DJ Fontana died on Wednesday, June 13, 2018; he was 87.
