The Drummer - Classic Rock

The release of "The Drummer: Classic Rock," the first in a much-anticipated series of special editions, coincides with the softcover re-release of MD's classic "The Drummer" book.

Modern Drummer Publications' The Drummer Collector's Edition magazines have been created to bring greater attention to the most famous and influential drummers in history as well as a greater understanding of their legendary contributions and connections to today's music. The new series, which is based on the exciting visual style and informative content of MD's top-selling hardcover book of the same name, consists of four volumes: The Drummer: Classic Rock, The Drummer: R&B, The Drummer: Punk/Alternative, and The Drummer: Jazz. Each special edition builds on material from the original book with expanded coverage of each genre plus updated bios, photos, sidebars, and discographies. At just $4.95 per issue, drummers and drum enthusiasts can afford to collect them all.

The Drummer: Classic Rock, the first title in the new series, features the inside stories of drumming royalty from the golden age of rock 'n' roll, including John Bonham, Ginger Baker, Alex Van Halen, Neil Peart, Carl Palmer, Keith Moon, Ian Paice, Mitch Mitchell, Ringo Starr, and Bill Bruford as well as material on dozens of other important players. Classic Rock goes on sale at leading drum shops, newsstands, and online dealers beginning October 15, 2010. Subsequent editions will be released quarterly, and all will be available in limited quantities while supplies last.

In conjunction with the release of the new series of The Drummer special editions, Modern Drummer has also announced that the original The Drummer book is available in a new softcover version, with a reduced retail price of $22.95. The book, which is subtitled, 100 Years Of Rhythmic Power And Invention, is the first major publication to tell the complete tale of the modern drumset masters, showcasing the quintessential drummers in more than two dozen significant, relevant styles-from the founding fathers of jazz and rock to today's technically advanced, musically diverse stickmen.

Providing unprecedented in-depth coverage of the world's most extraordinary, popular, and important drummers, Modern Drummer's The Drummer book and Collector's Edition magazines are educational, entertaining, essential additions to every drummer's library-and to the history of modern drumming.
