Hannah Ford

Hannah Ford was born on June 29, 1990 in Louisville, Kentucky. She was first introduced to the drums in her third-grade music class, a precursor of the renowned percussion group, The Louisville Leopard Percussionists. At the age of 12, Hannah moved to Chicago, taking advantage of new opportunities such as studying and performing with mentors such as Paul Wertico, Peter Erskine, Stanton Moore, Danny Seraphine and Johnny Rabb.

In 2006, Hannah won the Louie Bellson Heritage Days Drum Competition (the only female to ever do so) and the "Outstanding Jazz Musician" award at the New Trier Jazz Festival in Chicago. In 2007 she was once again recognized with an "Outstanding Musician" award at the annual "Jazz in the Meadows Festival" in Chicago, as well as beiing voted "Best Drummer/Musician", two years in a row (2007/2008) in Suburban Nitelife Magazines's "Best of the Burbs" readers poll.

After graduating high school (2008), Hannah accepted a scholarship to attend the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. Although the past two years of college has helped to expand her knowledge of music and make her a more versatile musician, Hannah has decided to leave school and pursue her playing career full-time.

For 2010, Hannah will be keeping her calendar full with live performances with her two bands, “Pandorum” and “The Hannah Ford Band”, reaching out to her peers at school assemblies with her “Peace, Love & Drums” multimedia show, giving back to young musicians at drum clinics and summer music camps, and finishing her upcoming debut CD, Happier With Me.

Hannah Ford's clinic appearance at the 2010 Chicago Drum Show on Sunday, May 16th, at 11:00am, was made possible by Evans, Gretsch, Maxheads, Shure, ThunderEcho, Zildjian and Vater. I caught up with Hannah after her Chicago Drum Show clinic, at the Drummer Cafe stage, for the following video interview.
